GRITSCHENBERG BLAUFRÄNKISCH 2013
100% Frankovka Modrá |Blaufränkisch - old vines & Organic
Shell-limestone aka “Leithakalk”
Deep dark ruby with a violet rim. Intense herbs and spice with macerated blackberries. Intense chalky minerality and lemony acid elegantly frame sweet sappy red berries to comprise marvellous Blaufränkisch character from a superb terroir. Discreet oak notes flavour the tannin and support the smooth tannins on the long finish.
The grapes were handpicked in the middle of October, destemmed and mashed into open wooden vats for fermentation for 4 weeks. Ageing was done for 24 months in 500liter barrels before bottling.
13 Vol% alc. | 5,6 g/l acidity
This was the most balanced vintage in recent years. Summer temperatures were mild and rainfall was higher than in both 2011 or 2012, which are considered great red wine vintages in Austria. A long growing season ensured enough ripeness to avoid green tannins and cooked aromas while providing moderate alcohol levels. Compared to 2011 or 2012, acidity levels were definitely higher which made the wines crisp and lively.
